![]() ![]() One such shape is the classic square, and so pixel art is possible. Being able to draw and animate in a number of shapes, it allows unique expression of creative ideas. Marmoset Hexels 2.5: So while this isn’t a pixel art app of sorts, it’s a geometric art program allowing cool looking graphics. I would recommend it no doubt, it’s just not for me. It does have a lot of features: Palette features, Tilesets, Import/Export, Animation and Layers, the works. I’ve barely used it but only because I can’t get my head around it. Because it works more in desktop format (pictures are windows moving around, like GIMP) I struggle with it. And while I haven’t used it much because of preference for other programs, I would still highly recommend it. While it has a Windows 98 design, it’s simplicity and functionality still make it a good program. The UI itself is amazing, allowing tilesets, colour adjustment, colour counting, a zoom on your brush on the far left, a zoom out of the picture on the far right. Animation, Onion skin, Colour Replacer, Pixel grid, Layers etc. GraphicsGale: Also another recommended to me, this programs a bit old but still has a lot of kick. Sure you can Import, Export, Create a Palette, but not much more. That’s where the creative features stop however. One feature it has that I don’t think I’ve seen anywhere else is Pixel Lighting, ergo drawing over pixels lightening the shade. It allows Animation, Symmetry, Dithering, painting pixels of the same colour on all layers and all frames, and transparent background. As far as I can see, it’s a basic program but it’s helpful for starter artists that want more capability than Paint. Piskel: Admittedly, I haven’t used this one much. #MARMOSET HEXELS DITHERING FREE#Despite this it is constantly being updated, and there is a free version and a paid version, so you can try before you buy. For example there isn't a gradient tool or a dithering tool. ![]() #MARMOSET HEXELS DITHERING FULL#And much more though I wouldn't know in full detail. Preset Palettes and Custom Palette settings. Layers and Animation are there too, including opacity and hiding for those layers (Admittedly I haven't fully explored layers and animation yet). It has a Replace Colour function which I love. It recently introduced symmetry (even as accurate as the MIDDLE of a PIXEL) which I am very happy about. #MARMOSET HEXELS DITHERING PC#When it was announced Microsoft was ditching this program, it hurt, because it's always my go to for even basic editing.Īseprite: This is my go-to program on PC for advanced art tools. But alas, it is still a very handy program, especially for beginners or small time hobbyists. And you couldn't edit in Fullscreen mode. I couldn't switch a colour I'd used across a whole sprite without recolouring pixel by pixel. For example, there are many reasons I sought for other programs besides Paint. However because it's very primitive, it can be restrictive in how quick and easy your ideas come to fruition. With it's gridlines and transparent selection, it's a program I use a lot. So I thought to help any other aspiring pixel artists out there, to bring light to some great PC programs and mobile apps, and keep my DVPage updated, I'd put together an entry to show the helpful programs/apps I use. And while a lot of my work is based from pre-existing sprites, there can be tools that I need to make things much easier. So I realise my posting can be quite irregular but life does that :/ I still practice a fair amount with my artistic passion: Pixel Art. ![]()
